What achievements have you made in helping others?
My baby sister was born with Cerebral Palsy & my parents intended to institutionalize her unless I took over full control at age 13. I did. I was a member of Volunteens and babysat children with disabilities as I was not afraid and knew how to take care of them. When my own children were just coming into their teens, I took in over a period of 8 years 35 foster boys, 2 girls. Once the kids were out of the house I moved to the country, where people dumped their dogs at the edge of the city and started an animal sanctuary. In my business, Upscale salon, I pampered certain women for free, such as single mothers seeking employment, a woman who was dying but wanted to look her best, a woman with MS who could not afford spa treatments. I hired & trained new hairstylists and nail techs who just needed a little more confidence & permission to open up creatively. Otherwise they would have remained unemployed. Now I am embarking on opening a Pet Boutique to defray the cost of a future Animal Sanctuary for abused, abandoned or neglected animals, a non-profit corporation & hope to enlist others who have a little time and compassion to help me help the animals. If all goes well, we will build a residence for incorrigible, emotionally troubled, abused children that have been unwanted in their families, or passed around the foster system or released from the foster system with no place to go & just not ready to take on the world. We'll give them a place to live, feed them and teach them about good nutrition, how to control stress, catch up on any academic deficiencies and allow them to work with animals that need help. The process works magically on its own, the animals heal the children and the children heal the animals. Big dream but "thought becomes reality".
What do you consider to be important traits in helping others?
Compassion, being willing to feel the pain and still help, selflessness, knowing that the small rewards of joy are worth all the hard work, emotional pain & time spent.
What do you consider to be today's greatest issue that is in need of attention?
Families. Families are abusing their children, neglecting them, etc., & this is passed down through the generations. Also, like Cananda and many countries we should all be entitled to the best medical care, which would include mental & behavioral therapy.
Would you like to contribute a possible solution to this issue? If yes, please explain.
When I took in foster kids I did contribute and reprogrammed these kids that they were worthwhile, they were important and loveable. And they could accomplish anything they could dream. Some I got to too late, but others live better lives now because of my presence in their lives. We have to have a gov't that seeks the Power of Love over the Love of Power (Jimi Hendrix) and change our insurance system, medical system, ways to protect children from bad internet content, protect them from violent TV content. We need to change our culture so that children are the most important asset we have. Employers need to understand this and realize a good parent is a good employee. Do I have the answer? By myself, no. With a cultural change as in the 60's with massive numbers of people speaking out and against and risking being jailed to change laws we just might have a chance to change things more quickly. Without, it will take years of fighting in & with the government of our own country to stop giving loopholes to the rich who don't need it, we have to stop lobbying for corporations that are defying the law and polluting our cities and the gov't has not insisted they follow the law or given them consequences to deter further infractions. We have to change the court system, too much corruption and ego. It should not be that the person with the most expensive attorney wins. When will truth win out in this country again? And it was said that "the soul of a country (man) can be seen by how he treats animals". I am not Jewish but I agree with the Kosher procedures in taking care of animals that will be slaughtered. We should not be buying food from other Amercans who are serving up steaks from cattle with mad cow disease and other maladies. There are so many things to tackle, no, I don't have a single answer but I know there is an answer. And I know I cannot do it by myself.
Tell us about yourself...
I am an Adult Child of Alcoholic Parents. I come from adversity. I didn't get a chance to finish college. But from that adversity, I have overcome. I am not rich, I am not poor (but getting poorer every year due to gov't laws that stroke corporations over the public)I don't believe in violence, but I won't tolerate someone victimizing another. I am a serial entrepreneur and have owned diverse companies. I am remarried after being single, by choice, for 22 years. I have a good work ethic, have integrity and am courageous. I have to be...I have a broken heart and to continue I must practice integrity and courage to get through my life. I continue to mentor kids, my stepson just graduated from HS & College with Honors, Magna cum Laude with an AA degree. I worked hard for that. laughing. Oh yes and despite all the seriousness, I have a great sense of humor & friends say I am fun to be around.
Favorite book, author, quote...
When the Power of Love overcomes the Love of Power the World will see Peace. Jimi Hendrix

Hi Pamela. Thanks so much for accepting my friendship. Thanks for the compliment as well... I can say the same for your wonderful smile. Have a wonderful night:)
David,
Love is boundless and these teens brought out more in me that I didnt' know I possessed. There was some heartache at times but we'd weather it & move on. They learned that you could make mistakes and life still continued and you were still loved and worthwhile. And they could start over. That's probably the most common thing I watched them figure out coming from families that once you messed up, you were out. Thank you for the praise but the blessing was really for me. I am no saint; but I understand kids and know how to talk to them, that helps. Good luck with yours'. I know you are a good father; its obvious. Your children are blessed to have you. And I am blessed to call you my friend. fondly Pami
Pamela:
The honor is all mine! Your work with others, especially children is so strongly admired. Being a Father of three children, the amount of love they bring into my life is boundless. The amount you most have given all these children seems to be boundless as well. Bravo to you and what you have accomplished!
I very much look forward to what you have to offer BPVN!
Have a fantastic week and it is great to see you here.
