Profile Information

What achievements have you made in helping others?
I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya from 1975-1978. I ran the music and the theater departments at Limuru Girls School in Kenya. since 1978 I have been involved with body-centered somatic approaches to healing the short and long term effects of different traumatic expeiriences from developmental to war and abuse. I am the director of the New York Center for Somatic Psychotherapy and on the Faculty of the Hakomi Insitiute.
What do you consider to be important traits in helping others?
It is important to be able to be centered, grounded, aware of boundaries, in tune with one self and able to also extend compassion, understanding and sincere interest to the person that you are helping. Most of the the person being served should feel a place of acceptance and warmth and a place to share what may be difficult in other situations.
What do you consider to be today's greatest issue that is in need of attention?
Frankly.. the issue that I see daily in the inability for people to find a place of grounded and centered peace and resiliency and from that place be able to relate through giving and receiving emotional, mental, physical and spiritual communication.

Most people talk and merge with one another.,, there are few people trained to really listen and be present without having to assert their opinion or perception. what's needed is.. more experience with mutual empowerment and relational honesty and authenticity.. with the intention to heal, grow, learn and evolve and expand beyond our limited perceptions.. culturally conditioned.
Would you like to contribute a possible solution to this issue? If yes, please explain.
I have bee presenting a 2-6 hour seminar that I call "The Use of Mindfulness to restore health and wholeness to the self." It has been received in many conferences and centers of learning.

During this seminar I give people tools to ground, center, share and learn about consious resourse and emboidment. I utilize group exercises and some lecture and then I give people the information so that they can take it home and share it with others.
Tell us about yourself...
I am a licensed body-centered therapist in New York City. I have two licenses.. in Massage and in Mental Health Counseling.

I also have trained in the creative arts and so I incorporate music, poetry, drawring, touch and movement into my seminars. The goal is to create a consciousness of mindful awareness that's internal and then share in dyads and triads with others. So.. the overall intention is to bring contact, connection and creativity into the space of a group.. and thereby..facilitate open learning and friendly interactions.

I have been a therapist and workshop leader for the past 30 years.
